Tips to Start Your Fitness Journey and Feel Empowered Every Step of the Way

Hey there, friend! If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect” time to start your fitness journey, let me remind you: the perfect time is now.

Don’t overthink it! Starting where you are—with what you have—is more than enough. As someone who’s led workouts around the globe, written guides on strength training, and navigated life as a mom of two toddlers (yep, turning three this January!), I know it’s possible to carve out time for fitness—even in the chaos.

Let me share my top tips to help you kickstart this incredible chapter of your life:

1. Set Goals That Inspire, Not Intimidate

Your fitness journey doesn’t have to be about running a marathon or bench-pressing your bodyweight (unless that excites you!). Start by setting meaningful, realistic goals that align with your why. Maybe it’s feeling more energized to chase your toddlers around (trust me, I’m with you!), improving your mental health, or simply showing up for yourself. Whatever it is, write it down and keep it visible—it’ll be your North Star.

2. Find Joy in Movement

Fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not about punishing yourself with workouts you hate—it’s about moving in ways that make you smile. Love dancing? Turn up the music and groove. Prefer strength training? Grab a set of dumbbells (or a curious toddler, if they’re up for it!). The goal is to make movement a celebration, not a chore. Check out one of my IG reels, where I share some fun, non-heavy workouts I do with my toddlers!

3. Start Small and Build Consistency

As a mom, I know how packed our days can get. Some mornings, just getting everyone dressed feels like an Olympic event! The key is to start small. A quick 10-minute workout, a walk around the block, or a few stretches before bed can make a huge difference. Remember, showing up consistently is more important than going all-out once in a while.

4. Don’t Underestimate Strength Training

Ladies, strength training is a game-changer. It’s not just about building muscle—it’s about building confidence, boosting your metabolism, and keeping your body strong for the long haul. Whether it’s kettlebells, resistance bands, or bodyweight exercises, strength training helps you show up stronger in every aspect of life (like carrying two toddlers at once—been there!).

5. Give Yourself Grace

Life happens—schedules get crazy, kids get sick, or you simply don’t feel like working out. That’s okay! Progress isn’t about perfection. Celebrate the small wins and remember that every step forward, no matter how small, is still progress.

6. Build Your Support System

You don’t have to do this alone. Whether it’s a friend, a partner, or an online community, having people to cheer you on makes all the difference. Even my toddlers love joining me for workouts sometimes—they’re small but mighty accountability partners!

You’ve Got This!

Starting your fitness journey doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It’s about taking that first step, finding joy in movement, and showing up for yourself one day at a time. Remember, it’s not just about what you do in the gym (or living room)—it’s about building a lifestyle that helps you feel your best.

So, let’s do this together! Lace up your shoes, grab a water bottle, and take that first step toward becoming the strongest, happiest version of yourself.

You’ve already got everything you need to succeed. Let’s show up and shine!
